Setting up gift cards is one of the great ways that you can extend your store beyond just its online presence. You can use gift cards both in your online store and through your point of sale system.
Today we're going to learn:
How to setup a gift card in Shopify
In the Shopify menu on the left-hand slide, select Products > Gift Cards
When you first go-to gift cards, it's going to say that you don't have any gift card products installed on your store. Click “Issue gift card” on the top-right hand corner.
Shopify automatically generates a code, but you are free to input your own.
Next, give the gift card an initial value. You can assign the gift card to an existing customer, or leave it blank if it’s being purchased by your customers as a gift. The expiry date may be set, but in most places in the world, some laws prevent a gift card from expiring because a customer has paid a monetary value for that card. We recommend not using an expiry date. Finally, a private note only visible to you (the merchant) may be added which will show up on the customer's timeline within their profile.
After clicking “Issue gift card” we now have a gift card that is successfully issued.
Note: Shopify keeps track of the balance of the gift card as transactions are made online or through a physical point of sale.
If you wish to sell gift cards on your store, we’ll need to create a gift card as a product.
On the Shopify navigation, select Products > Gift cards > Manage gift card products (just beneath the Gift cards title) > Add gift card product.
Input the product title, description, images, denominations, and select the sales channels the product is available on.
Click save and now you have a purchasable product!
